Our Response to Hurricane Helene’s Impact
In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc across the southeastern U.S., including communities we serve at Pyramid Healthcare, such as Asheville, North Carolina and Augusta, Georgia. With communication cut off and many areas stranded due to storm damage, clients and staff members were unaccounted for or unreachable, transportation was restricted and new admissions temporarily halted. Unfortunately, some of our own Pyramid colleagues lost their homes, belongings and stability to the hurricane.
In the aftermath of this devastating storm, Pyramid Healthcare teams immediately took action. Volunteers from as far away as New Jersey traveled to impacted areas to bring relief. Our people delivered gasoline, water, food and other essentials, even securing temporary housing for displaced staff, and continue to bring supplies to affected employees every day.
“I’d like to give a huge shout out to the October Road team during Helene. The staff at October Road showed teamwork, dedication and strength while facing battles such as not being at our facility for a couple days, not having power and not having water for multiple weeks. Team members showed up for each patient and each other even though some were without. It was also amazing to see all the Methadone programs in the community come together and collaborate to dose our patients. Staff spent hours calling, texting and tracking down patients whom were missing and creating a donation center for our patients in need. I am grateful to be part of such an amazing team.”
How You Can Help
Pyramid Healthcare has partnered with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) to raise funds for individuals and communities affected by the hurricane. Every dollar donated to the Helene Disaster Relief Fund will go directly toward supporting those impacted by Helene, providing critical, life-sustaining needs and making a significant difference in helping them regain stability.

Our Response & Collaboration
“While our main building was without power and water, staff still came together for each other and the clients, setting up a hub in front of the building and using cars to charge electronics, personal hotspots and whatever resources were available for clients and staff seeking support. Clinical staff even hosted walking groups and eventually virtual groups to ensure those clients had ongoing access to clinical support. Our providers and their support staff worked tirelessly to meet the clients’ needs: calling clients with appointments, hosting appointments outside and calling pharmacies all over the state to refill medications. The ACTT teams worked for days and located ALL of their clients, sometimes literally off-roading or hiking into remote and devastated areas to ensure no client went without their clinical team, medications or other needed supplies. So many staff members and their families offered up supplies for staff and clients in need, many bringing truckloads of supplies to go to those in need! Overall, it was a beautiful testament to the compassion and dedication our team shares for our clients, team, and community!”
Hope During Helene at Bluff in Augusta, GA
“I would like to recognize a group of Bluff staff who worked extremely hard during Hurricane Helene and its aftermath. This group came together working extra shifts and long hours to make sure Bluff’s clients and even staff were taken care of while Bluff was with no power and water. Some even drove in during extreme weather and after their own residences or properties were destroyed. Great teamwork and hope were displayed during this difficult time. #WELOVEBLUFF!”
“I just want to reach out personally and tell you ‘thank you’ for everything that you did for Bluff. Because of you, I was able to get to and from work, with a 50-minute commute one way, and not worry about fighting a line for gas. We have been able to eat, and not worry about having food.
My family is so thankful, to you and to Bluff, for doing all that you have done for us. Please pass this on to anyone who helped out. It’s easy to watch clips on TV, but if you’ve never experienced a disaster like this, you truly do not understand. It feels like we are understood.
My sincerest gratitude and deepest thanks.”
